A Chino man was arrested this week in a deadly hit-and-run crash that killed a pickup truck passenger on Highway 71 in Corona, authorities said.
Robert Chico Griffin, 46, was driving a Lexus sedan northbound and approaching Euclid Avenue on Aug. 15 when he rear-ended a Dodge pickup truck, causing the truck to travel off the freeway and overturn, CHP Officer Javier Navarro said.
A passenger in the pickup truck died as a result of the crash, Navarro said. Whether the driver was injured was not disclosed.
Griffin did not stop to render aid and continued northbound on the freeway, Navarro said. He then fled to Mexico, where authorities said he was arrested by Mexico State Police and brought back on Monday, Oct. 17 through CHP investigators working with the U.S. Marshal’s Fugitive Apprehension Task Force.
Griffin was booked into jail on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and felony hit-and-run causing death. He was released Wednesday after posting $150,000 bail, according to inmate records.
