As the Fairview fire continues to char acres, Menifee schools will cancel classes and close its offices Friday, Sept. 9.
“This decision was made after much thought and deliberation,” Superintendent Jennifer Root wrote in a letter posted online Thursday, Sept. 8.
Menifee Union School District leaders expect school to resume Monday, Sept. 12, she wrote. Students could work independently on projects or use Google classroom from home, but regular instruction will not occur Friday, the letter states.
As of Thursday evening, the blaze had consumed more than 18,000 acres near Hemet. The wildfire also caused Hemet Unified School District campuses to close this week.
“Our hearts are with those who have been adversely impacted by the Fairview Fire,” Root’s letter concludes. “Please continue to take care of yourselves, our students, and each other.”
