An event celebrating the LGBTQ community is coming to Riverside this weekend.
Riverside’s Inland Empire Pride Festival is set for Sunday, Sept. 4, at the Riverside Municipal Auditorium in downtown.
Organized by Riverside LGBTQ+ Pride, the event is set for 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. The organization serves all of the Inland Empire.
The free festival is billed on the group’s website as “a day of celebration, elevation, and reflection.” The last such local event was in 2009, Cesario Mora, a marketing assistant for the group, wrote in an email.
“The Inland Empire is home to a huge and diverse queer community,” Mora wrote. “To bring this kind of visibility and representation locally is so important because there is so much comfort in knowing that the place where you live supports and celebrates you as you are.”
The event will feature live music, drag performances, information on the history of the LGBTQ community, panel discussions, dancing and a DJ. It also will have a Youth Zone, designed by the Rainbow Pride Youth Alliance for those under 18 years old, that will include educational materials, coloring, arts and crafts, video games, a reading area and a photo booth.
No reservations are needed and Mora said the event is appropriate for all age groups.
