The NBA trade deadline is one month away, and the Toronto Raptors are reportedly keeping their options open. With the Raptors currently sitting at the 11th seed, Masai Ujiri and his executives can make moves that will put the team in a position to make the playoffs. If they act on these moves, reports suggest Raptor’s 2nd-year Forward Scottie Barnes is the “only true untouchable.”
“…the belief is that Barnes – the NBA’s reigning Rookie of the Year – remains the Raptors’ only true untouchable, though it would take a “king’s ransom,” as one source put it, for them to consider parting with Siakam or O.G. Anunoby.”
Scottie Barnes has quickly become one of the Raptors’ most valuable players. However, Barnes, the reigning Rookie of the Year, has yet to meet expectations in the 2022-23 season. He’s averaging 14.9 points, 4.6 assists, and 6.9 rebounds. Regardless, Barnes’ high potential earns him the “untouchable” label.
On Sunday, social media buzzed over a heated exchange between Scottie Barnes and Raptors Forward Thad Young. The two got into a heated argument while warming up for their matchup against the Portland Trail Blazers.
The video appears to show the veteran Young trying to get Barnes to focus, and Barnes wasn’t trying to hear it. Usually, Barnes is receptive to advice from his Raptors teammates.
The Raptors went on to win the match 117-105 on an excellent performance by Barnes, who scored 22 points, 9 rebounds, and 7 assists.
As the February 9 trade deadline approaches, the Raptors face difficult decisions. It remains to be seen what moves they will make, but one thing is rumored to be certain: they will hang on to Scottie Barnes.
