UCLA update: The Bruins had their best win of the season so far, upsetting No. 15 Washington 40-32 on Friday at the Rose Bowl and will likely earn a spot in the AP Top 25 for the first time this season. … Dorian Thompson-Robinson outdueled Washington’s Michael Penix Jr. The UCLA quarterback passed for 315 yards and three touchdowns while rushing for another. On defense, the Bruins recorded the first sacks against Penix all season and also had two interceptions. … In the middle of a stretch of playing three straight Top 15 teams, the Bruins have won eight straight games and six straight home games dating back to last season, and finished the month of September 4-0 for the first time since 2015.
Utah update: The 12th-ranked Utes routed Oregon State, which nearly beat No. 6 USC last week, 42-16 at home on Saturday. Since dropping its first game at Florida, Utah has won four straight, outscoring opponents 184-43. … Dual-threat quarterback Cameron Rising completed 19 of 25 passes for 199 yards and three touchdowns. He also rushed for 73 yards on seven carries with a touchdown. … Utah had four interceptions, two of them coming off third-string quarterback Ben Gulbranson after starter Chance Nolan left the game with a neck strain. La Habra High alum Clark Phillips III had three interceptions, including a pick-six in the first quarter. The Utes have recorded a turnover in seven straight games.
